Telecare: Cost-effective elderly care in this current climate

Elderly care home costs can be very expensive, and although, in certain situations, there is help from local councils and the government, the process can be difficult to understand and navigate.

From October 2023, the government will introduce a new £86,000 cap on the amount anyone in England will need to spend on their personal care over their lifetime (https://www.gov.uk/). Although this could be a big help for some, the question remains, who is going to pay for care up to that cap? Currently, if your capital, such as savings, is above £23,250, you are likely to have to pay your care fees in full.

New polling from Age UK finds that 10% (1.6 million) of over-60s in the UK are already cutting back or stopping their social care or expect to do so in the months to come because they can’t afford the cost. This particularly affects older people who pay for their own care.

But don’t panic yet, there are elderly care solutions that you can put in place now, which can actually reduce the number of hospital visits and delay admission to a care home. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6650660/.

In general, there are three main elderly care solutions: A care home, home care and telecare technology. There is a significant difference when we compare the cost of these three care solutions. It’s important to choose the right one that suits you and your budget.
