Retiring to the Countryside
Retiring to the countryside is a dream many people have. In fact, research undertaken with 500 over-55s by The Rural Media Company as part of the “Over The Hill” campaign showed that 57% found the idea of moving to a rural area appealing.
It is easy to understand why over half have shown an interest in moving to the countryside when considering the lifestyle of living in a rural area. You can enjoy:
- Outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing or cycling
- A slower pace
- A more quiet and peaceful environment
- Being in nature

However, there are a few things to consider before selling up and heading off to Cornwall. Some of the reasons why people choose not to retire to a more rural location include isolation, boredom, weaker connectivity, fewer healthcare services available, and distance from friends and family.

Our Digital Watch Package is a GPS personal alarm device which combines a range of features that can help with your lifestyle and safety, should you ever need it. Not only will it put your mind at ease regarding access to healthcare services, isolation and contacting friends and family should you ever need them in an emergency, but it also has a host of features that can contribute to your new rural lifestyle, including a step counter, calculating distance covered, tracking calories burned and a heart rate monitor.
This watch has an inbuilt, easy-touch SOS button, which, when linked to our monitoring centre, can raise an alarm anywhere you go – indoors or outdoors. Our 24/7 monitoring centre will contact your emergency responders or emergency services as required. Additionally, with the GPS location function, they will be able to pinpoint you accurately to direct responders to you quickly so you can venture out on a walk without worrying.
The watch has two-way speech when an alert is triggered and runs via the 4G cellular network. The watch is water resistant but shouldn’t be submerged at depth. It comes with an ‘at-home’ beacon which recognises the watch when in range and powers down the GPS function (which can help increase the battery life), and it has a magnetic charging pad for ease of battery charging.
