Living an independent life with a safe companion by your side

With the pressures on the healthcare system being more than ever before it is important there are other options in place to take action if an emergency arises. Having a Red Button Telecare system in place will provide peace of mind, whether that be for yourself or a loved one. It will also boost the confidence of people that live by themselves or have mobility issues and worry about a fall. It is the companion you never knew you needed.

This blog will explain how the Red Button Telecare system works, why it’s necessary, and what to do in the case of an accident, along with what we do on our end.

The companion you didn’t know you needed

The Red Button Telecare system is the answer to your medical emergency worries. Those questions you’d ask yourself such as, what would I do if I fall or feel unwell and can’t make it to my phone? Or what if my mother/father/spouse/grandparent has a fall or feels unwell and is unable to contact us? What would they do?

Whether this is because of a mobility issue or disability, it simply puts those questions to rest with this red button companion at you or your loved one’s side.

What is the difference between our packages?

The lifeline unit and its peripherals are the mainstay of TECS (Technology Enabled Care Services) and have helped hundreds of thousands of service users throughout the UK.

We currently offer three separate packages with them all consisting of a unit and a red button device, depending on what package you choose.

Falls Detector Package – The falls detector is so discreet that it can be worn on the wrist or as a pendant and therefore will fit directly into your/your loved one’s current lifestyle. Its automatic detection and alert will give confidence to anyone who is at risk of slips, trips, or falls such as people with limited mobility, older people, and people with long-term conditions such as epilepsy, diabetes, and Parkinson’s disease. Lifeline & Pendant Package – This device links seamlessly with your lifeline base unit and with the touch of a button it alerts the 24/7 alarm response service to action. If for whatever reason it is not possible to speak, don’t worry, our team will quickly ascertain this and escalate the situation to designated carers/loved ones or the emergency services, depending on the situation.  Read More about this package: https://redbuttontelecare.co.uk/product/lifeline-and-pendant-package/

Digital Fall Premium Package – Our digital solution consists of a tablet-styled touchscreen unit. The package comes with a wearable falls detector that links to the tablet unit, and one press of your pendant is enough to trigger an alert to our 24/7 response centre. In the event of a fall causing unconsciousness or total immobility, an automatic alert will be initiated, without pressing the pendant. Why Digital? – the digital question is a big one, however, the practicalities for our customers can be summed up as follows: Unlike the standard Lifeline and Pendant & Falls Detector Packages, you DO NOT require an active landline. That is because this Digital solution utilises the mobile network (i.e. 3G/4G) and therefore during the ongoing upgrade of all UK phone lines from analogue to digital, this digital solution will not be affected. For more detailed information on the digital upgrade see:  The UK’s PSTN network will switch off in 2025 (bt.com)

The Response Team

  •  Here 24/7, 365 days a year.
  •  Reliable team you can trust.
  • Qualified professionals with a history of working in healthcare services.

The actions we take when answering your call:

  1.  A member of our team will answer your call within seconds. They will speak with you through the lifeline unit speaker.
  2. If it is not possible to speak or are unable to make yourself heard, don’t worry, our team will quickly ascertain this and escalate the situation to designated carers/loved ones or the emergency services, depending on the situation. The lifeline unit is a neat and tidy device that will blend into the environment of your home effortlessly.
  3.  The Response Team will ask a few questions to assess the situation and decide the best course of action.
  4. The team member will contact your emergency contact to explain what’s happened and if necessary, contact emergency services. Any relevant medical information will be passed onto emergency services so they provide the best service for you when arriving at your home.
  5.  During the wait for the necessary contact to arrive, the team may stay in communication with you, reassuring you that someone is on their way. Once help has arrived, they will be able to gain access through the key safe (If there is one present, the response team will have a note of your code for the key safe).

The information we will need from you when you buy a package:

  • Your emergency contacts.
  • Any background medical history such as any disabilities we need to be aware of.
  •  The code to your key safe or the location of a key to gain access to your property in the case of an emergency.
  • A description of your current situation such as who else you live with.

Taking away the pressure

When you opt in to Red Button Telecare services, you are providing peace of mind to your loved ones as well as boosting your confidence to live independently in the comfort of your own home. It is most people’s desire to remain at home, independently, for as long as possible, whether that be by avoiding hospital stays, respite centres, having either regular or full-time at-home care or at worst  moving into the residential care system. Engaging with TECS early will vastly increase your ability to remain independent in your home, whilst still giving yourself and others peace of mind – often at a fraction of the cost.
